There are seasons when faith feels close.
Prayer comes easily.
Music moves you.
Scripture feels alive.
And there are seasons when all of it feels quiet.
You may pray and feel nothing.
Attend church and feel disconnected.
Read familiar words and wonder why they are not reaching you the way they once did.
That can be frightening when faith has always been an important part of how you understand yourself.
What this can feel like
You may wonder whether you have done something wrong.
Whether God has left.
Whether your faith has disappeared.
Emotional exhaustion, grief, depression and trauma can affect the way people experience connection, pleasure, concentration and meaning.
That includes spiritual experience.
Something you can try today
Do not force yourself to manufacture a feeling.
Let faith be small if it needs to be small.
A quiet prayer.
A familiar verse.
Sitting in the room.
Listening instead of singing.
Asking somebody else to pray when you do not have the words.
Absence of feeling is not the same thing as absence of faith.
When you may need more support
If spiritual numbness is part of a wider pattern of depression, grief, trauma or significant emotional distress, consider mental-health support alongside trusted spiritual care.
