A little help right now

I Can't Get Out of Bed

Okay. We won't start with the whole day.

Okay.

We won't start with the whole day.

We won't even start with getting completely out of bed.

For the next few minutes, forget everything waiting for you.

Work can wait.

The messages can wait.

The dishes have survived this long without you. They are remarkably resilient.

Right now, we're making one small movement.

Can you sit up?

You don't have to stand.

Just sit.

If sitting up feels like too much, prop yourself against a pillow.

Still too much?

Put one foot outside the blanket.

Move your toes.

Stretch one leg.

Choose the smallest version your body will agree to.

That counts.

Now choose ONE thing.

Not five.

One.

Bathroom.

Water.

Something to eat.

Medication that is due and prescribed for you.

Open the curtain.

Pick whichever matters most right now.

You do not have to continue once you've done it.

You can come back to bed.

Seriously.

This isn't a trick where I suddenly announce Step 2 through Step 17.

If you went back to bed...

Hi again.

You still did the thing.

Going back to bed doesn't cancel the water you drank or the bathroom trip you made.

Maybe we'll try another thing later.

For now, make yourself a little more comfortable.

And please don't use the rest of the world's productivity as evidence against yourself today.

Some days begin with a shower, breakfast and a to-do list.

Some begin with:

I moved.

Today, that may be enough for now.

Right now, choose one:

Sit up · Water · Bathroom · Something small to eat
